China is located in Eastern Asia, on the west coast of the Pacific Ocean. With vast land area of about 9.6 million square kilometers, it is second only to Russia and Canada in overall land area. It is the third largest country in the world and the largest country in Asia.
China’s Population
China is the most populous country in the world. As of 2010, China has a population of more than 1.37 billion people, accounting for 22% of the world's population. That is to say, one out of every five people on the planet is Chinese.
There are many types of landforms in China, including five basic types on land including mountains, plateaus, basins, plains and hills. The rich landform types provide a variety of conditions for the development of China s industry and agriculture.
China's mountainous areas are vast, with many tall and majestic-mountains. The huge rolling mountains form the backbones of China's terrain and topography.
In central China, there is a high mountain range that runs east and west — Qinling (or the Qinling Ridge). It runs from Gansu province in the west, passes through Shaanxi, and reaches Henan in the east. It has a total length of more than 1,500 kilometers and a width that ranges from ten kilometers to more than 200 kilometers.
