One day, deities from various places came to pay homage to the Emperor of Heaven.
天帝命令司觞大臣，说：“先把他们的名字登记好，再赐给他们酒喝。”
The emperor gave his minister in charge of wine cups the following order:“Register the names of the deities first, then bestow wine upon them.”
一到秋天，大河、小河里的水都涨了起来，流入黄河，河面顿时显得非常宽广。在河岸的这边，一眼望不见对岸的牛羊。黄河的河伯因此得意洋洋，自以为是天下最伟大的了。
When autumn came, all the water in the large and small rivers rose higher and flowed into the Yellow River. The surface of the river at once appeared much wider. On one's side of the river bank, one couldn’t see the cattle and sheep on the opposite side. The river deity Hebo was therefore immensely proud and considered himself the greatest under the sky.
南海的皇帝，名字叫“脩”;北海的皇帝，名字叫“忽”；中央的皇帝，名字叫“浑沌”。
The emperor of the South Sea was named "Tiao", the emperor of the North Sea was named "Hun", and the central emperor was named "Hun Dun".
